Some of the world’s most beautiful Orchids come from Thailand. The Dendrobium and Oncidium orchid varieties are among the highest-quality flowers and are sought after by many collectors.

Asian cuisine has many varieties too. I once worked as a dishwasher at a Szechuan restaurant that made some of the most amazing Chinese food I ever had. I now enjoy Thai over Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and yes even Szechuan choices. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the wonders of some great sushi or enjoying some Bibimbap; rather, I just find so much to love about Thai food, that I’m sure benefited from French influence in the last century.

Finding a good Thai restaurant in a new city is never an easy adventure and we’ve had some pretty awful examples of Thai since arriving in Dallas last year. Fortunately I had some time to make a quick stop at what looked to be a fairly busy restaurant on Belt Line Road in Addison one afternoon.

Thai Orchid Restaurant in Addison is a fairly small restaurant. It has a simple, clean atmosphere and the staff was friendly and quickly sat me at a table and asked for my drink order. I naturally went with one of my favorites Thai Iced Tea.

The lunch specials menu consisted of about 15 choices and included salad or soup, spring roll, and steamed rice. The day I was there, I went with Chicken Rama and the soup, a chicken rice soup.

My Chicken Rama came with a generous helping of lean, white chicken and large fresh cuts of broccoli, carrots and zucchini. The sauce was a medium-spiced peanut sauce that was perfectly done with just the right creaminess and a great balance of flavor. I highly recommend it.

This was my first stop at Thai Orchid Restaurant, but I’m sure it will not be my last. I’m really looking forward to trying some of their vegetarian options and curry dishes.
