Chef Lisa Garza, a former contestant on The Next Food Network Star and owner of Lisa Garza Taste Studio, opens Sissys Southern Kitchen & Bar today. The restaurant will feature authentic Southern cuisine, cocktails and décor.
At the media lunch I was invited to, Sissy’s presented itself as a fun place that feels like home in the South with great food, awesome drinks and friendly “bow-tie” service. Garza hand-selected Chef Jeffery Hobbs, her dear friend and partner at Suze for seven years, to execute her culinary vision. Here are some items on the menu that I enjoyed:
Sissys fried chicken: a choice of white or dark meat prepared in a house-blended brine and soaked in buttermilk ($11 for 2 pieces and $20 for 10-piece bucket)
Corn fritters with whipped honey butter & jalapeno jelly ($7)
Whole fried okra ($6)
Shrimp and white cheddar-green onion grits ($18)
Gumbo ($6 cup)
Sissys Southern Kitchen and Bar will be open for dinner Monday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to midnight, and Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. They have a great patio to enjoy a jalapeño margarita ($12) or a secluded private space called The Parlor with its own “Late Night Parlor Bites.”
