The Legacy West development in Plano, across the street from The Shops at Legacy, is a bustling area for new restaurants, retail shops, fitness studios and much more on the horizon. New to Legacy West is True Food Kitchen, and some of you may be familiar with the Dallas location. Lucky for you all in North Dallas (like me!), we now get a True Food Kitchen in our neighborhood.

If you haven’t been to True Food Kitchen before, the restaurant is a relaxed, eco-chic chain serving health-conscious fare, including vegan options, plus cocktails. The Plano location is a bit bigger than the Dallas one and has a large patio for all your wining and dining needs. I was invited to preview the menu in Plano. What I love about True Food Kitchen is its rotating menu. Every few months, a handful of new items are featured for guests to enjoy the season’s ripest ingredients and produce.

Here’s a look at the menu tasting I experienced:

Edamame Dumplings : Dashi, white truffle oil, Asian herbs

This was an amazing starter. The dish was light and shareable, and a must-have if you like edamame. I haven’t tried any food stuffed with edamame before, and this was a delight!

Herb Hummus: Greek salad, feta, grilled pita bread

Another light sampler to order for your table is the Herb Hummus. I didn’t snack on too much of the bread (because I’m trying to watch the carb intake), but I looooved the hummus. The hummus is topped with lemon juice, and along with the herb taste, the overall flavor is unforgettable.

Torched Avocado: Cucumber noodle, mushroom, snap pea, radish, sesame, turmeric ponzu

The final appetizer my table shared was the Torched Avocado. I’m obsessed with avocados, so this dish was a no brainer to order. The bread was a little too crispy for my taste, but the ingredients on top made for a decent appetizer.

Grass-Fed Burger : Umami mushroom, caramelized onion, arugula, Parmesan, mayonnaise, flax seed bun

Now on to the entrees! You can find the burgers on the sandwich section of the menu. There’s an Inside Out Quinoa Burger that sounded good but I was looking for some more protein; so I opted for the Grass-Fed Burger. (There’s a Turkey Burger too.) Sometimes I’m in a mood for a burger, and this is my new guilt-less option. The Grass-Fed Burger comes with a side of kale salad and will make you forget about fries completely.

Wild Mushroom Pizza: Asparagus, roasted garlic, Taleggio

Four pizza options landed on the spring 2017 menu, and boy was I ready to try one! My server suggested ordering Wild Mushroom Pizza. The Taleggio cheese really made this pizza standout. It’s a creamy topping along with some roasted veggies – all on a thin crust. You can also choose from Roasted Artichoke, House-Made Chicken Sausage and the Margherita pizzas.

Spaghetti Squash Casserole: Organic tomato, caramelized onion, zucchini, fresh mozzarella

The entrees is the largest section of the food menu and includes a variety of hot and cold dishes, including a Poke Bowl. The casserole shown above is a great vegetarian option and of course the typical noodles are swapped with squash noodles. If you’re looking to eat something on a cold or rainy day, this dish is it! All the cheese on top will add to the calories of the casserole, but it’s comfort food at its finest.

Flourless Chocolate Cake: Caramel, vanilla ice cream, cocoa nibs

To conclude our sampling, we picked out a dessert…because I can never say no to a sweet finish. Now talk about a healthier dessert option is this flourless chocolate cake. The cake is moist and just melts in your mouth. The slice is topped with a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream, and I chose an organic coffee to go along with the heavenly ride.

True Food Kitchen also offers a mix of juices and iced teams, as well as handcrafted cocktails, to pair with your meal. Enjoy margaritas, sangrias and martinis, and beer and wine options. I drank the Medicine Man (a non-alcoholic juice) that consisted of triple-brewed black tea, blueberry, pomegranate, honey, sea buckthorn. So much yum! There’s even a drink called the Hangover Rx that may do you some good when you need it.

The restaurant is located at 7200 Bishop Rd., Ste. 250, Plano TX 75024. For information, click here.
