Southern food staples coupled with a shot at living the “Goode” life? Yes please!

Murphy Goode, a popular California based winery teamed up with local favorite Julia Pearl Southern Cuisine for an evening of food and all things fancy that did not disappoint.

Murphy Goode Winery was founded in 1985 by Dave Ready, Tim Murphy and Dale Goode over an interesting game of Liar’s Dice, which later became the name of one of their best Zinfandels that I was able to sample this night. I also discovered that many of Murphy Goode’s wines are named after card games or popular phrases used in card games, paying homage to the origin of the winery and its founders.

I never turn down an opportunity to visit Julia Pearl, so to say I was excited about the evening would be an understatement. After a warm greeting by the hostess, I was whisked away to a private dining area complete with flowers, lighting and an elegant table setting. I met the local representatives for Murphy Goode and the lovely wait staff of Julia Pearl, and before I could even sit in my chair I had a lovely glass of Sauvignon Blanc The Fume in my hands…..score!

After hearing “We at Murphy Goode have a saying…we take our wines seriously, ourselves not so much!” I knew I was in for a good time! And Julia Pearl Chef Jermaine Brown made my experience very worthwhile as I locked eyes on the first of many of his dishes that were specially prepared for the event.

First Course: Jalapeno Marinated Shrimp with Lemon-Grilled Asparagus and Tarragon Sweet Corn Sauce paired with the Sauvignon Blanc The Fume

Second Course: Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin with Wild Mushroom Ragu and Smoked Onion Soubise paired with the Pinot Noir (the Smoked Onion Soubise is a MUST HAVE! I’d literally pour it over a bowl of cereal, it’s that good!)

Third Course: Wood Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Roasted Gold Beet Risotto and Blackberry Port Gastrique paired with the Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (2013)

From one delicious dish to the other, I had an excellent time celebrating great food and amazing wine. Julia Pearl and Murphy Goode plan to team up again for another tasting/wine pairing in the fall, so be sure to check out their respective Facebook pages for more information.
