Last Friday, my husband and I went to Cane Rosso for dinner and wanted to stop by the buzzed about Hid In 2612 pop-up bar. The bar, that moves out after this Friday, is located in the space next to Cane Rosso that will be used for additional seating and private events in the future.

Hid In has filled the space with random chatskis and decor (from King Zulu Bong Design and Again and Again) accented with funky lighting, and has a bunch of small seating vignettes surrounded by pictures of women with 60’s-style hairdos and a large white tent made from drapery hanging from the ceiling. The music was soft synth beats and, since we were there rather early at 10 p.m., it wasn’t very crowded and you could have a conversation with those around you. A small group of people next to us actually brought their Cane Rosso to-go orders in and ate at one of the wood tables.

Elliott Muñoz was the host on opening night and explained that Michael Martensen (from Cedars Social) and Brian McCullough (who’s working on opening Standard Pour on McKinney), who opened their first pop-up bar, Bar 828, in Bishop Arts last year, are trying to get back to the speakeasy days with these different pop-ups. No word yet on where the next pop-up will be, but I did hear that they’ll use the “Hid In” name plus the street address for all future pop-ups.

There is a drink list that floats around the bar somewhere (I didn’t get a chance to see it), but just tell the bartender what you like and don’t like and watch them work their magic. I was given an El Grapefruito (grapefruit juice, triple sec, vodka and a few other things I couldn’t make out). Girls around me were sipping other brightly colored concoctions while guys were downing bourbon and martinis. But at a place like this, try something you wouldn’t usually order. Just a heads up – it is a cash bar and it seemed like almost every drink was $10.

Hid In will be open from 8 p.m. – 1 a.m. Thursday and Friday. Be sure to check them out before they’re gone!
