Licor 43 recently named Joe Arakawa the winner of the United States division of 7th Annual Licor 43 Bartenders and Baristas Challenge. Arakawa was one of eight finalists who competed in Dallas to see who could create the most original and delicious new cocktail that celebrates the perfect pairing of Licor 43 and coffee.

Arakawa’s “Dawn Patrol” cocktail was chosen by a panel of celebrity judges, including Love is Blind’s Alexa Lemieux; former professional baseball player Gordie Gronkowski, Jr.; LA television host Paul Zahn; and Johnny Drinks’ John Rondi Sr. and Johnny Rondi.

Arakawa will now advance to the finals which will be held from October 16-19 in Madrid, Spain where his original cocktail will square off against other bartenders from regions around the world. The global competition winner will win €3,000 to spend on training and materials, as well as extensive national and international media coverage.

This is the seventh time Licor 43 has held its annual competition. This year saw the most ever competitors in the U.S. division, with a 22 percent increase in the number of cocktails entered into the competition. The other eight finalists represented cities like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas. Competitors experimented with flavors that ranged from Filipino rum, citrus, and absinth, showcasing their inventiveness as well as the flavor versatility of combining Licor 43 and coffee.

The competition in the finals was fierce, and judges had the difficult job of choosing between drinks that showcased Licor 43 as an after-dinner sipper, a festive tiki lounge cocktail, and a sophisticated blend of chocolates and coffee. Arakawa’s “Dawn Patrol” embraced the heritage and flavors of his native Hawaii, combining Licor 43 with lime, egg white, coconut water, ginger, cinnamon, and Hawaiian cold brew.

Licor 43 Original is a Premium liqueur produced in Cartagena, Spain from a secret Spanish family recipe of 43 natural ingredients which includes Mediterranean citrus fruits and selected botanicals. The layered flavors of citrus, floral, sweet and botanic and how they harmonize with the ingredients of different serves, such as mixed with coffee or milk, make Licor 43 Original so versatile.
