Tired of fighting over tables during Happy Hour at Kona Grill in NorthPark? As much as I adore its avocado egg rolls and $5 pizza, Queen of Happy Hour has discovered an alternative on McKinney — Truluck’s. For those of who might think Truluck’s is a bit out of their dinning budget, well, this is your chance to experience their appetizers, a wide variety of cocktails, and selected red wines at HALF PRICE from 5-7 pm Mon-Sat and all night on Sunday. No kidding! Thanks to Mr.and Mrs. Lee who were my chauffeur and photographer.

Ceviche was my one of favs out of all simply because I’m a huge raw seafood person. Good amount of guacamole; however, it might have too much citrus for those of who are not so good at handling sour foods.  Otherwise, ingredients is fresh and it’s a must order in my opinion.

Cheeses were decent; however, the plate just did not stand out as much in comparison with other dishes. The crackers were too hard for my grandma-ey teeth(which aren’t good at handling hard things). Sliced apple serves as a good palate cleanser in between trying different cheeses or food for me. That’s a plus!

Crab and Shrimp Rangoons were very chewy and comparably more filling than other plates. Inside, it’s the fish paste containing partial real crab and shrimp, so don’t be looking for chunky crab/shrimp meat. $6 is all. What can you complain about; you get what you pay for. I like the sweet sauce, which was very appetizing.

I particularly appreciate how their calamari is thinly battered, so I don’t feel like I’m eating flour but squid.  A great deal!

This is the right place to look for fresh and real crab meat!

Here comes the American Kobe beef that outshines all. It was done just perfect, the beef was so fresh and tender that I can definitely eat 10+ of them my next visit. On top of it, the patty was thick and chunky as you can see in the picture. You know you are eating REAL beef, not a mix of whatever processed from the factory. You have my permission to drool over the picture.

American Kobe

My friends’ order, which I didn’t care to try when real crab meat, american kobe beef, and shrimp just totally grabbed my attention. Wings were heavily flavorful according to them, so you might want to be careful as it may kill the flavors of other things you are tasting.

Having had Magnolia, Sprinkles, and Crums, chocolate cupcake at Truluck’s ate my heart. This is me: I don’t like the icing overly sweet as if I’m eating a mouthful of concentrated sugar. This is light and its sweetness is absolutely there. Not too sweet, and definitely not unsweet or flavorless. Cakes have to taste sweet no matter what!

Carrot cake is one of the last 10 things I would eat in the world, I’m just not a fan of it. I say that but I still try a tiny bite every time my friends around me think it’s good and I should give it a try. Afterwards, I usually rolled my eyes. So I did the same here, all I can tell you is that carrot cake actually outshines the chocolate. I found a carrot cake that I can handle!

I personally have no respect for the servers who are like whatever to the customers during Happy Hour, or they treat you differently when you are not ordering full-priced food. No tips! All customers deserve to be treated equal. I am glad that this is not the case at Truluck’s on McKinney (where I visited). Don’t forget to ask for Brent if you wish to be treated like a queen…or king. : )
