One of our favorite taco joints is expanding in DFW! Velvet Taco, known for its fresh menu items and inventive combinations, is coming to the Grandscape shopping / restaurant center in The Colony on June 27. This location will be the brand’s 24th location in Texas and 34th nationwide.

Check out the 10 things you need to know about this new hot location!

  1. The restaurant is truly #Instagrammable.
With several custom, hand-painted exterior murals, Velvet Taco’s Grandscape restaurant is a thing of beauty. Perfect for those Instagram and TikTok backdrops. The largest of the four murals pays homage to the restaurant’s home in Grandscape, a new mixed-use shopping, dining and entertainment destination with a colorful Velvet Taco front and center.

  1. Meet Marie.
On full display is Velvet Taco’s signature Marie Antoinette painting (eating red velvet cake, of course), commissioned by artist Laura Shull. Guests can only find this painting at a Velvet Taco restaurant and it represents uniqueness, luxury and irreverence; signature adjectives of the brand. We asked Laura, “What was it like painting Marie Antoinette for Velvet Taco?” She said, “So much fun! It’s always a good day when I get to dress up a beautiful model, give her heaping handfuls of red velvet cake, and see what happens.” Let them eat (red velvet) cake!

  1. The menu is 100% scratch made.
Like all Velvet Taco locations (excluding food halls), the menu features more than 20 inventive tacos, sides, red velvet cake and their Weekly Taco Feature (yes, a new taco each week), made by professionally trained chefs from real ingredients. The real magic is the way even the most basic ingredient is transformed by hand; take the rotisserie chicken for example, which takes 48 hours to prepare, or the tikka sauce that takes three hours to make and simmer to perfection.

  1. Lines are bigger in Texas.
Beat the lines with the custom loyalty app. With it, you can order ahead, save favorites, skip the line and earn rewards.  The Velvet Room is Velvet Taco’s loyalty program which is best managed through the app experience.

  1. Drumroll please…Grandscape has live music and events.
Grab a taco or marg to-go and check out the live music. It rocks. Check the calendar here.

  1. Here is something for everyone. Late night eats anyone?
Whether you want to dine inside, out on the patio, never leave your car, or grab some really late night eats, Velvet Taco has you covered. Having a gathering? Did you know they cater?

  1. Introducing Eric Thompson.
The new General Manager and leader of the Grandscape Velvet Taco team is a wizard in the kitchen, a master at hospitality and a proud developer of talent. The Grandscape location boasts two promotions within–developing their Tribe is a pillar of Velvet Taco’s success.

  1. There’s a Ferris wheel nearby!
Not many taco spots can boast 360 views from 200-feet! Take your tacos from around the world and enjoy a ride around the fabulous Grandscape Wheel–where air-conditioned gondolas will take you and your party of up to eight on a ride with stunning 360 degree views of North Texas.

  1. Drive-up and go equals convenience.
It’s the only restaurant in Grandscape that has a mobile ordering pick-up window. Order online or through the app ahead of time to pick-up your order without ever leaving your vehicle.

  1. Our CEO isn’t called Taco Maker for nothing.
You may find Velvet Taco’s CEO and Chief Taco Maker, Clay Dover, behind the POS or slinging tacos during late-night. Yes, he’s a night owl; Yes, he loves making tacos. CEOs, they’re just like us!
