Downtown Dallas was never on my radar for a quick breakfast or lunch, due to slim pickings and lack of parking spots. I knew I had to change my ways after the opening of Freshii, a health-casual restaurant that came to town in May of this year. An international chain since 2005, Freshii is known for its eco-friendly atmosphere and nutritious, customizable menu. Eat. Energize. is its focus and goal as the chain provides whole and super foods in a fast-paced, urban setting.

Located on the main floor of the Adolphus Tower on Akard, between Main and Commerce, Freshii is very convenient for the office lunch rush. I managed to snag a parking meter but with only enough change for 30 minutes. That would’ve worked for a pit stop but not for enjoying my first experience at Freshii. With that in mind, meters can be a bit of an annoyance if you wanted to talk with friends over smoothies and breakfast burritos or simply enjoy a lazy, late lunch. Therefore, be prepared to bring a sufficient amount of change, or youre walking back to the car after placing your order!

Not hard to find when downtown! Sit at the tables in Pegasus Plaza when the weather is nice.

The marketing is as fresh as the food, displaying delicious ads and influential posters, all in a very green theme. Literally, the entire restaurant is decorated in the color of wheatgrass green with recyclable cutlery, napkins, cups, and bowls. Not only do you feel good about what youre putting in your body but also what youre doing for the environment! Freshiis concept is truly genius due to the fact that it serves whole foods fast. With the option of filling out a customizable sheet or ordering from the menu, you can eat exactly what you want. Just walk up to the register and pay first…then watch them prepare your food right there.

Do you find yourself making some poor breakfast choices when rushing out the door in the morning? You wont have to any more when there are healthy meals such as Greek Yogurt Parfaits, Slow Cooked Organic Oatmeal, Grilled Egg Pockets, and Grilled Breakfast Burritos. Pick your own fillings and toppings, or try a signature combination if youre not feeling creative. Every meal has the ability to add a protein starting at 99 cents, plus the option of making kale or quinoa a base for only 99 cents too! Be aware that the menu doesnt specify if the dishes are served hot or cold, like the Mediterranean Bowl, which has half greens and half quinoa. The quinoa is supposed to be warm, but since all of the other ingredients are chilled, the heat doesnt stay present for very long. I really enjoyed the dish and its plethora of feta, kalamata olives, almonds, roasted red peppers, cucumbers, red onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and red pepper sauce. All in all, the taste and nutritious value proved to be outstanding, so I didnt mind the difference in temperature. If you happen to be curious about anything on the menu, I suggest asking the staff before you order.

Are you Gluten-Free or wanting something even healthier? If so, make any wrap with collard greens instead of a classic or grilled tortilla. Low carb and vegan, the Green Wrap is detoxifying while supporting your immune system and digestion. I ordered the Superbiotic Green Wrap with chicken and requested the cucumber dill dressing on the side in order to add to taste. The dressing definitely needed some zest, and I think more dill wouldve done the trick. The Green Wrap is absolutely incredible, but also incredibly messy when trying to bite or especially cut in half. Dont order this on a date because you will find yourself definitely chewing a little harder, and picking up falling artichoke hearts and chickpeas! At the pick-up counter you can even take little containers of Sriracha to your table or to go! After adding the spicy hot sauce to my wrap, I  noticed that I really didn’t need much dressing.

I highly recommend ordering the Freshii Green energizing smoothie as a sidekick to your meal or palate cleanser. The low-fat probiotic frozen yogurt, kale, spinach, pineapple, and avocado make this smoothie refreshingly satisfying! I will be sure to go back soon to order just a smoothie or creamy frozen yogurt dessert. For your information, the smoothie and frozen yogurt posters boast fat-free, but the description displays low-fat. If it is of great importance, I would clarify with the staff.

So fresh and so green, green!

The final menu item I tried was the Metaboost salad with chicken and balsamic vinaigrette on the side. Boosted full of field greens, spinach, kale, mangos, carrots, edamame, roasted almonds, and goat cheese, this salad is a winner. Light and full of crunch, the Metaboost has ingredients that compliment each other wonderfully. With bountiful bowls on top of rice noodles or brown rice to Tex “ Mex burritos, Freshii provides nutrient-rich food that inspires anyone to make the right dining choice.
