This is a community project of a few (nearly 20 now!) DFW-based nerds who happen to like food, probably a little too much. We have been a part of the Dallas Food Community for the past 10+ years!

How we got started: For the Love of Food

Our OG foodie pic!

Like most good stories, Dallas Food Nerd started around a table of wonderful food. On Valentine’s weekend (2011) two social mediaites (Elysa & Rory) were invited to go on a food tour of 5 Fabulous Dallas restaurants. We spent the day, thanks to Chevy, with several wonderful food bloggers indulging in chocolate and souffles. Before the Chevy Sweethunt adventure, we both already had blogs, Twitter, Facebook and many other social media credentials on our virtual resumes, but we felt like a food blog was definitely in order. Long story short, in our sugar coma filled afternoon we bought this domain, emailed a bunch of our foodie friends and DFN was born.

Today as a community we are reviewing restaurants, trying kitchen gadgets and drooling over food photos.

If you have a food related product or event you’d like us to check out, feel free to get in touch

Nelli Tokleh Sproull duals as a social media marketer and foodie influencer. She loves to try food from all over the world and is always down to grab Tex-Mex – no questions asked. amy yen

Amy Yen @amypyen

Longtime Dallasite Amy has never met a taco place, brunch spot or noodle house she wasn’t down to check out. She’s a marketing manager in her day job, so people who eat with her are used to having to wait for her to take pictures of everybody’s food before anyone can eat. Also, she’ll basically go anywhere with you if you promise her boba.
denim2

Denim Miller @denimlikethejean

As a Dallas native, Denim’s favorite hobby is exploring new restaurants around town — from Thai to BBQ; Dallas offers such diversity. An added bonus is when she can enjoy a cocktail on a patio in the gorgeous weather. Her start as a foodie came from growing up with a mom who did not cook. It was just the two of them, so they split dinners at restaurants and bonded over trying (and critiquing) new yummy places. Denim has since then taught herself to cook through trial and error (and Blue Apron), but still frequents her local go-tos and get just excited to taste all of the delightful additions.

Ally Wallis @g8ter

Ally has always been a foodie and loves to check out the new spots around town. As a 10+ year Dallas resident, her friends can always count on her to know the best new spots in Dallas proper. When she’s not checking out new restaurants, you can find her dining at her favorite sushi restaurants or enjoying happy hour on a patio with her pup, Lily.

Arash shares his foodie contributions from Tarrant County and comes from a family with a long-standing restaurant.

Carolyn Chynoweth @callingcaroyln

When she isn’t traveling or experimenting in her own kitchen, she is exploring the local food scene with friends and family. A self-proclaimed sushi enthusiast, Carolyn is always on the lookout for the next great roll, though she’s just as happy discovering DFW’s best hidden gems and hole-in-the-wall spots.

I’m always striking up conversations about food—swapping tips, sharing favorite recipes, and debating the best way to cook a potato.

  2. Does any one know what the Dallas/North Dallas options are for all natural, hormone-free restaurants? Chipotle and Whole Foods are a nice start. I would like to have a few more options. Many thanks!

  3. Hi,

I recently read an article on a friend’s blog about an exciting new food that will be featured at this year’s State Fair. I just wanted to suggest it to yall as a possible blog topic (: The new “it” food at the State Fair this year is going to be a new vendor that is selling fried chicken skin!! They are also selling fried cake balls and fried loaded mash potatoe balls. I looked them up and actually found their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Eat-Crispies/191533957523472. Thought I’d share!

    Love your blog!

    Sincerely,
    Victoria
