Arlington may be the epicenter for sports in Dallas, but unfortunately, the dining scene doesn’t exactly score many points. But The Rock has taken centerstage and with it, brings promise of a new food experience in Arlington as it continues to grow in 2016.

When something happens in North Arlington, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Especially when you completely level an iconic restaurant like Trail Dust (yes, complete with the slide and all) right in the middle of the Entertainment District.

But as soon as we entered The Rock Wood Fired Kitchen, the ‘rock n roll’ pizzeria legendary for its dining as well as its design, we weren’t quite sure if we were here to eat or to hang out with the band. But after a successful family dinner, all our tastes buds were happy as well as the tunes we enjoyed while at the restaurant.

This two-level eatery is just as much fun to taste with the eyes as it is the mouth. Every detail of the joint is an ode of the original founder’s pure love of good rock n roll. From vinyl covers as artwork, AV equipment cases as tables and bars, and even lyrics as the pattern for the booth seats or on each stair as you walk up to the second floor.

With several different spaces to enjoy, including a top-level bar area that opens to a second-level deck facing the Shockwave across the street at Six Flags. A real classic music fan myself, I enjoyed all the fine touches throughout The Rock including a hidden ode to the “dark side of the moon” faintly lit behind the other ode, the big Trail Dust sign that used to belong to the family-focused restaurant chain long gone. Now in its a place, another music-centric restaurant that’s traded in the tie for the drumsticks.

Pizza (including gluten free options) is on tap at The Rock with its cornerstone being the big open wood fired kitchen right as you enter the doors. But that’s not all – it’s full of burgers, sandwiches, salads and some serious desserts. But the appetizers like the Dazed and Confused Prawns (a must have was the Shattered Queso Nachos) and the “Rocktails” including The Rock’s specialty alcoholic beverage simply called “The Bucket” and their Lava lamps, can make for a dang good “Saturday Night.” (Or Wednesday, Thursday or whatever day.)

However, the menu constantly evolves and guests can submit recipes to be battle-tested in locations across the country. The Rock’s wood fired pizza has earned the restaurant top honors, including a spot on Pizza Today’s list of Top 100 pizzerias. And we definitely dug it, too!
