World of Beer has launched their new Fall Plates and Pints Menu and invited John Valadez and I to their Plano, TX location to sample the new cold weather classics. Taking advantage of the skyrocketing growth of local breweries World of Beer offers over 50 craft beers on tap, over 500 in the cooler and a menu of tasty tavern fare.

Fall Plates

We were excited to try the 5 new menu items for Fall each paired with a specific style of beer. I started with a flight of wheat beers and was pleasantly surprised by the variety on tap. From left to right the flight, pictured below, included Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, Revolver Brewing Blood & Honey, Karbach Brewing Weisse Versa Wheat, and the ever so tasty New Belgium Snapshot. Flights are a good choice if you want to taste a variety of beers and styles.

World of Beer

World of Beer Skillet Cornbread Heaven

First up on the menu was the Southwest Skillet Cornbread featuring sweet corn and roasted pepper topped with an arugula salad with roasted corn, peppers and queso fresco. While I didn’t try it with the melted chili-lime butter it was perfect on it’s own.

World of Beer Colorado Chili

Nothing welcomes the warm weather like the Colorado Chili with rich and savory steak, pieces of chorizo and red beans spiced with red chiles. Served with a dollop of sour cream, onions and cilantro it’s sure to keep you warm.

World of Beer Meatloaf Sliders

Next came the mini Dogfish Head Meatloaf sliders smothered with a savory brown gravy made with Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale. Given the flavor profile it was ideally paired with a porter style beer.

World of Beer Pimento Cheese Board

I was looking forward to the Pimento Cheese board, but my advice is to get it with the sweet and savory bacon jam on the side. The jam seems to liquify a bit from the hot cheese. Otherwise the healthy choice celery and charred garlic toast were the perfect dipping tools for the cheesy goodness.
Habanero Pumpkin Spice Wings

Last was the Habanero Pumpkin Spice Wings. Now I’m a big fan of spicy wings, but we may have gone a bit too far with the pumpkin themed wings. They were delicious, however the spicy glaze made with cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar and Jamaican allspice was an interesting combo. Don’t worry they were all eaten because, after all, they are wings; personally I prefer a spicy buffalo wing.

BEERunch Menu

Next I ordered a flight of Local Texas beers as we sampled a variety of menu items off the breakfast section of the BEERunch menu.

World of Beer Crab Cake Benedict

First up was the Crab Cake Benedict and it was delightful. Featuring an english muffin halve topped with baked crab cake and creamy hollandaise sauce paired with crunchy tots –  I could have eaten 10 of these. Get in mah belly!

World of Beer Hangover Skillet

The aptly named Hangover Skillet featured scrambled eggs with peppers & onions, a very tasty jalapeño & cheddar sausage, candied bacon & pepperjack cheese piled over crispy tater tots with Texas toast on the side.

World of Beer Chicken and Waffles

Now time for something sweet with the Belgian Beer Waffles and the Chicken and Waffle Sandwich. The waffles were perfectly light & crisp served with a maple-bourbon syrup on the side for dipping. In my case, the bite on my fork went for more of an underwater dive expedition.  The chicken breading was light and flaky and topped with a bacon and onion jam that paired well with the sweetness of the syrup. ANCHO-CHIPOTLE BACON & EGG SANDWICH 8World of Beer Breakfast Tacos

Lastly, we were served the Ancho-Chipotle Bacon & Egg Sandwich and Breakfast Tacos. The sandwich really stood out here with the drizzling mozzarella combined with jalapeños, peppers, onions and tomatoes on lightly toasted Texas toast topped with crisp thick bacon. The breakfast tacos were hearty and you guessed it … served with more tater tots. My only recommendation to World of Beer here would be to maybe offer a few more side choices with the breakfast entrees. For example, the crab cake benedict could have easily been served over some southern grits, or with some pan fried potatoes with onions and peppers.

While the Find a Beer app is featured prominently on their desktop website, I was really impressed with the beer filtering options in their mobile app. The ease with which you discover new beers by style, country of origin, alcohol content, and color made it easy to get lost in a world of beer. Yep I just said it. I’d recommend you download the app when you get there or before arrival. Beer selections by location are updated daily. What would be really interesting is to tie the mobile app into the Point of Sale system so you could order directly from the app. Typical of me to Uber MacGyver all applications.

All in all, what I thought was going to be a longer than usual afternoon lunch turned into 4.5 hour tasty venture. Thanks to great conversations with the GM Nicole and bartender Sean, the time flew by. I recommend you find your local World of Beer and venture in and sample their new Fall menu and of course BEERunch. Also, don’t worry, I took advantage of Uber for my ride there and back.

And don’t forget to check out the patio when you visit. What is your favorite item on the menu?
