Southern California-based Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar recently opened its first Texas location in the popular Village on the Parkway in Addison. I had a chance to try out signature items, learn about the concept and meet its personable wait staff and management.

A warm, fuzzy feeling

The restaurant, spanning 8,445 square-foot, is designed to feel like a Rocky Mountain Wyoming escape. The beautiful furnishings remind me of being in a winter lodge with cozy fireplaces and couches, as well as large, beautiful artwork. And yes, you will see a dog theme all around the place!

A dog-friendly area

The patio at Lazy Dog is spacious and dog-friendly. There’s even a dedicated dog menu featuring grilled meats and rice.

Starters and Meals

Lazy Dog offers an expanded, broad menu including pasta, pizza, wok-fired dishes, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads and more. The company also has an entire menu of gluten-free entrees, a kids’ menu, weekend brunch items and affordable happy hour selections.

lazy dog calamari

If you’re looking for an Asian-inspired appetizer, this crunchy Wok-Fired Calamari will please your palate. The calamari strips are tossed with sweet soy plum sauce, topped with peanuts, bell peppers, green onions and sesame seeds, served over steamed white or brown rice.

Since pizza is one of my most favorite foods ever, the flatbread starter was a must for me. This Grilled Garlic Flatbread is sprinkled with parmesan and comes with a warm marinara sauce for dipping.

Now on to more pizza! The Margherita & Wild Arugula Foldover pizza is a new entree item to check out. This brick-oven pizza comes with housemade Pomodoro tomato sauce, mozzarella and fresh basil, and topped with a pile of Wild Baby Arugula tossed in a light olive oil and lemon vinaigrette. I think the Arugula makes for a nice touch on the pizza!

I’ve heard great things about the grilled cheese, so I wanted to try it out for myself! Several melted cheeses (Cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella & jack) are melted between Parmesan sourdough, giving you a wonderful, easy going grilled cheese sandwich.

I also sampled one of the most popular items at this location – the Baja California Burger. If you know me, you know I love guacamole. So, of course, this half-pound patty is topped with fresh guac, mild hatch chiles, jack cheese, a roasted jalapeno-lime aioli, lettuce, tomato, pickle and red onion – all on a brioche-style bun. (Modify as needed.)

Desserts

I still saved some room for dessert (like I usually do…). 🙂 Lazy Dog offers sweet bites as a perfect finish to your meal, including a couple of new options. So why not treat yourself and a friend? These sweets are great for sharing, too.

Here’s a pic of the $5 sangria I had during happy hour – so refreshing!
