Last week, I attended the Dallas Observer‘s Iron Fork event for the first time – and what an amazing foodie event! The evening included a chef competition, plenty of booze, and most importantly, food sampling from a wide variety of fantastic Dallas-area restaurants. Several of these restaurants have been on my list to try, so I was eager to visit every booth I could and eat until I couldn’t have another bite. Here are some of my favorite samples:
These were a couple of my first samples and their memory definitely lasted. The smoked salmon with apple slaw from Luck was fresh, flavorful and light – something I could easily snack on all night. And the shrimp and grits from Sissy’s Southern Kitchen? Yes, please! I’ve been wanting to go to Sissy’s after a few recommendations from friends and now I’m definitely paying a visit.
This was toward the end of the sample tour, so I was stuffed. But, look how pretty this pierogi from Kessler Park Eating House is! This perfect comfort food tasted just as great as it looks.
After a full belly and satisfied palate, I finished it off with Full Rooster City Coffee and with a bit of Dude, Sweet Chocolate’s drinkable chocolate. I’m not sure if they were intended to mix, but it was a combination of warm, velvety liquids was just what I needed to top off the night.
