Hunter Pond, owner of East Hampton Sandwich Co., recently made the Forbes 30 Under 30 List of Wood & Wine. What a huge honor for this 27-year-old year Texas native! He makes the restaurant distinct by adding gourmet sandwiches on the menu and focusing less on the bread and more on what’s in the middle.

We congratulated Hunter on the big news and had a chance to interview him. See our Q&A below.

Q: What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?

Q: “In the long run, integrity trumps the fleeting advantages of artifice.” I have this quote hanging in my office and on a sticky note on my work laptop. It’s not only my personal favorite that applies to my life, but 100% inspired me with East Hampton.

East Hampton Sandwich Co.’s point of differentiation is our commitment to producing quality ingredients. We avoid taking the more economical approach to the sandwich business, and what we lose in food cost, we make up for in volume. Our customers share our same vision for what a sandwich should be…

Q: How did you pick the name for your business?

A: I wanted to elevate the expectations of our customers before they entered the door. East Hampton has a fabulous reputation for being an area with a dedication to artisanal crafts. The craft of sandwich making is our business, and thus I thought it was a great pairing.

Q: What’s your favorite menu item at the restaurant (food and drink)?

A: Turkey, Bacon + Avocado with Garlic Sage Aioli, and our Hampton’s Iced Tea.

Q: What is your favorite type of food in general?

A: Sandwiches…or homemade pasta.

Q: If you cook, what do you like to make at home?

A:. I love simple cooking. Roast Chicken and vegetables from the farmers market, or homemade pasta with from scratch sauces. I’m addicted to pasta carbonara as well.

Elysa, Dallas Food Nerd founder, and I stopped by the location at The Shops at Legacy to sample a few of the new and classic menu items. Visit the restaurant to experience these gourmet sandwiches and sides!
