My husband and I have enjoyed living in the Lakewood area for the past couple of years now, and are always trying to support local businesses and restaurants in our neighborhood. On our latest excursion, we were pleasantly surprised to find an amazing neighborhood pizza joint just a quick trip up Abrams tucked in a small shopping center at Forest Lane.

PrimoBrothersSaladPrimo Brothers Pizza has been in the same location since 1982 and has been voted the best neighborhood pizza in Lake Highlands. We were greeted by the owner Luan Vraniqi who immediately made us feel welcomed. We started off with the House Salad which was a simple mix of lettuce, tomatoes and shredded mozzarella cheese, but the Homemade Red Italian Dressing made it beyond tasty. The sweet and tangy dressing is so good, you’ll want some bread to soak it all up from your plate. And the owner knows just how much people like the homemade dressing, so he sells 16-ounce bottles of the bright red sauce for those who want to keep the party going.

PrimoBrothersCalamariLuan then brought out some of his award-winning Fried Calamari. The tender calamari were lightly breaded, and nice and crispy, and served with some warm marinara sauce on the side. We don’t usually indulge in an appetizer when we have pizza on the brain, but this calamari is definitely worth the splurge (and extra time at the gym).

PrimoBrothersMediterraneanNow to the pizza. Primo Brothers offers an internationally-inspired “Pizza of the Month” starting on the first of every month. This month they’re offering a Mediterranean Pizza that has their light pizza crust, covered with pesto and topped with mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, artichoke hearts, pine nuts, feta cheese crumbles, Italian seasoning and fresh basil. Everything about the pizza was fresh. We learned that they make their dough fresh daily and listen to their customers feedback on their featured pie. Last month’s pizza, the Punjabi Pizza, was such a hit, there’s talks of adding it to the menu in the not too distant future.

But we had to try a New York-Style slice of cheese pizza while we were there. The dough was the classic thin crust and was topped with a slightly sweet marinara and 100 percent real mozzarella. Completely delicious and a steal at $2.49/slice!

As we chatted with Luan after our meal, we saw the case of desserts at the front. He said they get everything fresh from Cheesecake Royale and mentioned some of his favorites are the Chocolate Mousse Cake and Turtle Cheesecake. So good if you have the room!

Luan will be featured on FOX 4 this Friday giving viewers a few new ideas on how to use Thanksgiving leftovers, so be sure to check that out as you’re recovering from your food coma. So head over to Primo Brothers Pizza now, or when you need a break from the turkey, to try this month’s featured pizza or the dozens of other pizza and pasta options they offer. You won’t be disappointed!
